Shaw's History & Antiquities Of Staffordshire (1801)

One of the great histories of Staffordshire. Written by the Rev Stebbing Shaw between 1798 and 1801, it is based on the manuscripts of Huntbach, Loxdale, Bishop Lyttleton and from the collection of Dr Wilkes (which included Erdeswicke's survey) - and is supplemented by material from Dr Plot's History of Staffordshire (q.v.). Illustrated with over fifty engravings, it is a magnificent and authoritative history of the county up to 1801. Kindly loaned to the project by Brierley Hill Library.
