The principal triangulation for the areas of Cheshire and South Lancashire shown on sheet 80 was undertaken in the early 1800s. Triangulation stations were established at Bellefield, an isolated hill about three and a half miles south of Warrington, and within Delamere Forest. The Delamere station was also used in 1806-in taking astronomical observations with Ramsden's zenith sector to compute the position of the meridian of Delamere-and its location is described in Mudge's report on the trigonometrical activities.
