Aston Manor, as it was originally called, was, in the Domesday Book, which was completed by the order of William the Conqueror in 1086, was recorded as 'Estone'.
It was originally five times larger than Birmingham and covered what is now known as Lozells, see map on page 88. Parts of the old parish within the area of Birmingham included Deritend and Bordesley, Duddeston cum Nechells and Little Bromwich. On the 9th November 1911 the area was taken over by Birmingham and it became known as Aston, this area is defined on the map on page xi and details and information in this book only relate to this area
