An Old Coachman's Chatter, with some Practical Remarks on Driving

Edward Corbett

Published by Richard Bentley & Son, London, 1891

Second edition, no ISBN

This is an ex-library book once held in the City of Oxford Reference Library, with the usual stamps on the paste-downs front and back. It also spent time before that in service to the Women's Voluntary Services for Civil Defence in Oxford during the Second World War. The WVS stamp, including address and telephone numbers, appears in several places throughout the book.

The title belies what lies within: eleven chapters chatting about different aspects of driving horse-drawn coaches, with an appendix listing which mail coaches operated out of London and other places.

The book (15cm x 23cm) is in good condition considering its age. Corners and spine edges are bumped and frayed. The eight full-page illustrations are slightly tanned including the tissue sleeves. The 304 pages are rough cut, with cracks in the internal front and back hinges but the spine remains otherwise intact.
