From the preface by Howard-Drake: 'This is the fifth booklet in the project to calendar the 18 surviving volumes now in Oxfordshire Archives of depositions made in the Oxford church courts between 1542 and 1694.' 

Inside was found a handwritten note by the author to Molly [Dr Dorothy (Molly) Barratt, archivist at the Bodleian Library and member of the Oxford Record Society]: 'Dear Molly, Here's a copy of No 5 with, as always, my grateful thanks for your help. On to No 6! With best wishes from us both, Jack'

In the preface by the author he thanks, 'Mary Barratt who read this booklet in draft and suggested various improvements.'
