You
could be forgiven for thinking that this Union lady was the Desperate or Real
Housewife of her day in the 1860s. Well-connected in New York City
society, Daly had much to say about them - and other major figures, including
Mrs Lincoln - during the American Civil War. As the blurb on the back of the
book says: 'Rumour, gossip and innuendo are the weapons of the home
front, and no one wielded them with quite the aplomb of Maria Lydig
Daly.' Worth a read for that alone.
Softcover
in very good condition, no internal markings. Very slight rubbing on the edge
of the front cover. xi, 396pp. (13.5 x 20 cm).
