Part of the MEDIAEVAL TOWN SERIES, this early guidebook features 13 chapters on the town and university, including 'Cambridge in the Norman Time', The Earliest College Foundation: Peterhouse', 'Bishop Alcock and the Nuns of S. Rhadegund'. There are 56 black-and-white illustrations, including two foldout maps.

This second edition hardback is in Good condition (17.5cm x  11.5cm)  xx, 356pp., with a gilt top edge and gilt titling and decoration on the front cover and spine. The tissue guard is missing. There are two small tears along both maps. The map of Cambridge town has minor extra folds. The book corners are bumped; the spine ends, bumped and frayed; the text block edges, uneven and discoloured with age. The front and back pastedowns and free endpapers have some notations in pencil. Overall, still a lovely copy.
