Born in 1853, van Gogh was only 19 years old when these first letters were written. He died in 1890 at the age of 37 from an infection resulting from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

This Near Fine hardback features an introductory memoir by his sister-in-law, Johanna van Gogh-Bonger and twelve illustrations that were included within the letters.

The book is 22.3cm x 14cm, vii-lvii, 324 pp. with tiny speckles of foxing on top of the text block, otherwise pristine.
