Kidderminster St.Mary and All Saints

First Edition 1999.
During the (1995-96) winter season of the Kidderminster & District Archaeological & Historical Society, it was decided that, as
there was no modern record of the monumental inscriptions in St Mary's Church, the Society ought to do something to rectify that
On Wednesday evenings in May and June six members spent some time recording all the memorials at present in the Church.
There are other records of memorials that have since disappeared, so those have also been included. When the churchyard was levelled
and cleared of stones a record of those still legible was compiled. This has also been included in this booklet.
For reasons of space it was felt to be impracticable to print monuments exactly as written, and so it was decided to print each
entry in continuous lines with the sign / to mark the end of each line on the inscription. We have tried to be accurate in recording when
upper case or lower case lettering was used, but we have not recorded where the long letter f was used instead of s. This
presented difficulties of type, and it was also confusing to the reader.
We hope that other people may be inspired to record the inscriptions at the other churches in the town.
Those engaged in the recording of inscriptions were: Miss P. Cooper, Miss S. Dixon, Rev W. Elliott, Mr D. Gilbert, Miss C.
Guest and Mrs. L. Torode.
